VOLUTE CASING
 
Large Volute Casing pumps
 
Jyoti ltd. recently started to manufacturing volute casing pump. we have commissioned 14 MVC pumps for GLIS-II for Andhra Pradesh. Currently we are working on the project KNNL (Upper Bhadra lift irrigation scheme)

Product Features
 
Draft tube
 
Draft tube is used to convert the kinetic energy into pressure energy at the inlet (suction cone) of metallic volute pump.
 
Spiral casing
 
The impeller discharges into a spiral casing having gradual increasing area via channel provided with vanes. Majority conversion of velocity into pressure is in diffuser vanes. Spiral casing is also used to convert the kinetic energy into pressure energy partly and make the flow of water coming out from the spiral casing uniform
 
Diffuser
 

Water coming out from the impeller carries high amount of kinetic energy .Almost 70% kinetic energy is converted into pressure energy in diffuser and it is also used to make the flow smooth.

 
Impeller
 
It is an enclosed type impeller that is fitted into the volute casing. After manufacturing of impeller balancing is performed on the level of high accuracy. Sea water and normal water can be handled with this impeller.
 
Impeller Balancing
 
Hydraulic balancing of the impeller is achieved by means of back wearing rings which also relieves the pressure on the stuffing box to a large extent. In order to ensure smooth running and freedom from vibrations, every pump impeller is carefully dynamically balanced
 
Mechanical seal
 
It is placed at the upper cover so that it can restrain the possibility of coming water vertically. Equipment downtime and reliability are key factors in selection of mechanical seal in large shaft diameter of concrete and metallic volute pumps. It is suitable for non hazardous liquid services. We can also provide static seal for maintenance purpose.
 
Thrust bearing
 
The bearing will serve for holding of axial forces (hydraulic axial thrust + mass of pump rotor without motor) and radial force generated by the pump impeller and rest of unbalancing parameter stated under. The bearing housing shall be designed to transmit the maximum axial thrust of the impeller in both the direction. Bearing must be adapted for the installation of hydrostatic lifting, like drilling in axial segment, internal piping and necessary fitting. Bearing shall be babbit lined and of self oil lubricating type. The type of bearing shall be pivoted tilting pad type construction. The bearing housing shall be designed to support the bearing element rigidly and transmit the load due to maximum axial thrust of the impeller in both the direction. Bearing support shall be of heavy construction design to support the bearing pads rigidly and length of which should not less than three fourth diameter of the shaft. Cooling water require for the pump bearing shall be taken from the delivery of the pump after passing through suitable fine duplex filter with back wash arrangement. Bearing should be designed to work without cooling water during starting.
